How to Take Care of Your Hoverboard and Keep it in Great Shape to Prolong Its Lifespan

1. Keep it Clean

Proper cleaning is crucial for maintaining your hoverboard’s appearance and functionality. Dirt, dust, and debris can build up on the wheels and body of your hoverboard, which can cause friction and wear. To clean your hoverboard, simply wipe it down with a damp cloth. You can also use a mild soap and water solution, but be sure to rinse it thoroughly with clean water. Avoid using harsh cleaning agents or excessive water, as it may damage the electronics. Keeping your hoverboard clean not only ensures it looks good but also helps prevent dirt from getting into sensitive components.

2. Store your hoverboard properly.

Store your hoverboard in a dry and cool environment away from direct sunlight when you’re not using it. The best place to do so is in a cool, dry place. Extreme temperatures and humidity can damage the internal components and battery. During winter or hot summers, you may want to consider storing your hoverboard indoors. Store it in an upright position to prevent unnecessary stress on the tires or motors. If possible, keep it in a carrying case or protective cover to shield it from dust and dirt.

3. Avoid riding your hoverboard in harsh conditions.

Choosing the right surface for hoverboarding can significantly impact the longevity of your device. Opt for smooth and flat terrains, like sidewalks or paved roads, as they put less strain on the hoverboard’s components and wheels. Hoverboards are not designed to be ridden in harsh conditions such as rain, snow or mud. It could damage the electronics and the battery. If you absolutely must ride your hoverboard in wet conditions – which we don’t recommend at all – be sure to wipe it down thoroughly afterwards.

4. Don't overload your hoverboard.

Hoverboards have a weight limit. Pay attention to the weight capacity of your hoverboard and avoid exceeding it. If you overload your hoverboard, it can damage the motors, wheels and overall structure, leading to premature wear and potential safety hazards. The weight limit of your hoverboard will be listed in the owner's manual. If multiple riders of different weights will be using the hoverboard, ensure that each person stays within the weight limit.

5. Inspect it regularly

Perform regular inspections to spot any signs of wear or damage. Start by checking the wheels for cracks or tears, the body for any cracks, scratches or loose parts and, if you notice any issues, have them addressed by a qualified technician or contact us. This can prevent minor issues from escalating into more significant issues.

 8. Use the right charger.

Before diving into the world of hoverboarding, read and understand the user manual provided by the manufacturer. It contains vital information about the hoverboard’s specifications, recommended usage and safety guidelines. A very important rule you’ll find in there is to only use the charger that came with your hoverboard. Using a different charger could damage the battery. Furthermore, familiarize yourself with the features, controls, and charging instructions to make the most of your hoverboard experience while ensuring safety.

Also, don’t leave your hoverboard plugged in for long periods of time as it can damage the battery. If you’re not planning to use your hoverboard, be sure to unplug it.

9. Check the tire pressure

Hoverboards typically come with air-filled rubber tires, and ensuring the correct tire pressure is essential for optimal performance and a smooth ride. Use a pressure gauge to check the tire pressure regularly and adjust it as needed. Overinflated or underinflated tires can affect the hoverboard's stability and maneuverability, so keeping them properly inflated is crucial.

Additional Tips

• If you're going to be riding your hoverboard in a crowded area (although Smart Balance Shops don’t recommend it), be sure to be aware of your surroundings and yield to pedestrians.
• Wear safety gear, such as a helmet, wrist guards, and knee pads, when riding your hoverboard.
• Don't drink and ride. Alcohol impairs your judgment and coordination, which can make it more difficult to ride safely.
