Palace of the Parliament

Exploring the Majesty of Casa Poporului - The Parliament Palace of Bucharest, Romania!
Did you know that Casa Poporului, also known as the Palace of Parliament, is the world's heaviest, largest, and most expensive administrative building?
Let's dive into the fascinating history of this architectural marvel!

A Monumental Project:
The construction of Casa Poporului began in 1984 during the regime of Nicolae Ceaușescu. This grandiose project was intended to symbolize the power and
wealth of Romania but came at an immense human and financial cost.

Monumental Scale:
Covering a staggering 330,000 square meters, with 12 stories above ground and 8 underground levels, the Palace is a true behemoth. It is said that over 700,000 tons of steel and bronze, and an astounding 1 million cubic meters of marble were used to build this monumental structure.

A Visionary Design:
The architectural style is a blend of neoclassical and modern influences, boasting impressive facades adorned with columns, balconies, and intricately designed details. The colossal building houses hundreds of rooms, including the National Museum of Contemporary Art and the Romanian Parliament chambers.

A Costly Legacy:
The cost of constructing Casa Poporului was exorbitant, estimated at around $3 billion USD. It came at the expense of the Romanian people, who had to endure hardships and displacement due to the vast demolition that occurred during its construction.

A Symbol of Resilience:
Since its completion in 1997, Casa Poporului has witnessed a transformation in its role. Today, it stands as a symbol of Romania's resilience and determination to move forward, embracing its history while looking to the future.
